She cried out to God,
my mocking screams
causing her eyes to open wider,
those eyes mimicking her mouth
as my screams ridiculed her words.
Fear was there, in her eyes,
and all I could do was smile
and nod, so that she knew.
Knew that her fear
was not misplaced,
that her screams
could not be loud enough,
her eyes not wide enough,
nor her breath deep enough.
God would cease to have meaning
after the screams stopped
and limbs grew too weak
to struggle any longer.
Hope would die,
while her heart still beat
and the memory of light faded.
All it takes is a taste,
slide me on to your tongue
and take me into your mouth,
let me show you
what you have been missing.
